FOOTPRINT STRUCTURES IN MUD

Footprints at La Virgen del Campo occur as both open and filled shafts. Among the open shafts are stamps, deformed footprints, and undertracks. Among the filled prints are casts, more or less destroyed by erosion, which are faithful copies of the real hollow left by the foot.

The stamps are characterized by preserved marks of the pads; they show no deformation. Some trackways contain stamps and other true footprint types. Changes in the properties of the mud or deformation of some parts of the site may lead to variations. Examples of stamps are the footprints of LVC8, some footprints of LVC10, LVC4, and LVC25, and probably the LVC124 and LVC14 trackways.
